The city of Mar del Plata (Sea of Silver) is the most important
city for health and relaxation in Argentina, offering a coast of
more than 17 kilometers (10.5 mi) with beaches and services suited
for your needs.
Among the attractions is an architectural legacy of
constructions dating back to the first centuries (A.D.). Its
numerous parks, plazas, and gardens, with various colorful
flowers, offer an amazing atmosphere and landscape for
tourists.
The city not only lives for tourist activity, but also for
commerce with its important textile industry: Mar del Plata is
famous for its wool clothing. On the other hand, it is the first
fishing port of the country, which has developed into an important
industrial center.
A place on interest within the city is the Lorenzo Scaglia
Municipal Museum of Natural Sciences, which has important pale ontological, geological, and zoological material. The Juan
Carlos Castagnino Municipal Museum of Art, is a beautiful building
that houses 450 works of Argentinean artists in painting,
lithography, photography, drawings, and sculptures. Additionally, in
the Mar del Plata Aquarium there are special shows of seals and
dolphins.
From Mar del Plata you can visit the lighthouse at Mogotes
Point, constructed in 1890, standing 26 meters (85ft) above the
water and in its surroundings you will find beautiful, remote
beaches. Then, from the lighthouse, a coastal route brings you to the beach resorts of Miramar, Mar del Sur, Centinela
del Mar, Costa Bonita, and Necochea.
